Getting on with it.

I have been spending my days throwing myself into being Cllr Folkes, since my eye had been on other pastures for the last few weeks.

Monday was spent taking the numerous messages of support and encouragement from people. It was overwhelming, thank you. The clear message was to keep going. So that's what I did yesterday.

I went off to see the Chief Executive at North Cornwall DC to catch up about the Unitary bid which is of huge concern to many. The big announcement is today and it has been the source of much unrest amongst so many people. I think we will all be relieved when we know what is going to happen, just so that we can all start looking ahead and working to make sure that the result is the best for Cornwall.

I attended a meeting of the Housing Management Team. As Vice-Chair of Community Services I found it was invaluable insight. In the afternoon I went off to a Planning Policy meeting where I helped to raise the affordable housing provision in an amendment to our supplementary planning guidance from 35% to 45%.

It is going to meet resistance from developers and run a risk of appeal, but it is time that decisive action is taken to tackle our housing crisis and I think the meeting with housing this morning made me want to see the council take that firmer action!
